No s’equivocaven.

(The telecom) In 1987, when I was fifteen, my parents decided that I would be a telecommunications engineer. I was led to believe that I decided it, but they did.

My creative needs, which I channeled through poetry, music or photography, were relegated to the category of potential hobbies and were never considered a serious modus vivendi. On the contrary, my parents persuaded me that studying degrees like “Literaute and Arts” was the most useless thing in the world, and they were even pleased when I laughed at some of my friends who had chosen them.

Telecom was a useful degree "with job opportunities" that promised a secure future. They were not mistaken. I work in TV3, the Catalan public broadcasting company, since 1994. I enjoy the work that I do and the labour and remunerative conditions are enviable in this tougher times.

My mother said it plainly when I interviewed her about the possibility of me taking photography professionally:

Perhaps photography fills you more than your usual work, but you need to consider that you need to live, eat, have fun, pay a mortgage and, above all, have money if you want to keep enjoying your precious hobby.
(El creient, The believer, 2011)

Every day I get up at quarter to six in the morning and take the train to work. To get there, getting off the train, I still have to walk fifteen minutes through an industrial area. Sometimes, along the way, I take pictures.
